So Arizona Sen. John McCain went on the radio in Pennsylvania on Monday—ostensibly to help Sen. Pat Toomey’s re-election (in Pennsylvania?) and declared that Senate Republicans “will be united against any Supreme Court nominee that Hillary Clinton, if she were president, would put up.”
His spokesperson later tried to walk back McCain’s astounding admission that Senate Republicans would never allow Clinton to have a Supreme Court appointments without actually walking it back, saying McCain "will, of course, thoroughly examine the record of any Supreme Court nominee put before the Senate and vote for or against that individual based on their qualifications." If that seems pretty damned weasely to you, you’re right!
But that’s all we’re going to get from McCain on this, because he’s now running away from the whole mess. Literally. Running away. Watch a local Arizona reporter try to talk to him.
That’s probably because there’s no way he can make what he said better. It really was a stunning declaration of what this Republican Party stands for these days—keeping a Democratic president from doing anything. The matter-of-fact nature of McCain’s admission—that this is just what they do now—condemns him and the whole party.
Can you chip in with $3 to help Ann Kirkpatrick retire John McCain and turn the Senate blue?
