GOP States Keep Ignoring Court Orders to Restore Voting Rights
This article was published three weeks before the election. Courts across the country declared Republican voter suppression laws unconstitutional, and yet voters were still voting under these unconstitutional circumstances three weeks later, overtly so in critical states like North Carolina and Wisconsin. Similar to identical laws - in addition to voter purges, random restrictions and polling place closures — are under fire as we speak for unconstitutionality in half a dozen other states. Kansas’ SoS is on the verge of contempt of court for failure to comply with court ordered remedy to the Republicans’ unconstitutional attacks on voter rights.
The Republicans have comprehensively violated voters’ rights, the courts have repeatedly ruled against them and demanded that remedy be instituted, and the Republicans have obstructed and failed to provide those court ordered remedies.
So wouldn’t it be proper to ask: Was this election representative of the will of the people? Was it constitutionally sound? Should election results be accepted under such conditions? Why?
We are confronted with an anti-constitutional agenda taking over our government founded on the ongoing success of their anti-constitutional tactics. They’ve made and make no pretense as to their current intentions, no small portion of which openly trashes (at the very least) the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 14th amendments. There is no ambiguity, here. We are up against a direct and immediate threat to the Republic.
If we are to save our Republic, we can’t be hit or miss now. We must speak and act with one, unified, massive voice of righteousness. There is no voice as beautiful and precious, no voice so clear, no voice so righteous as the voice of the constitution. We must be the ones who are standing with and defending the constitution against this travesty of a party, a party that is flying the flag of white supremacy and treason to the union. We must not be silenced and we must not allow rule by this fascist organization selected through voter suppression and obstruction to the constitution of our beloved country. Not again. Yes, we should go for the most immediately obvious electoral recourse, but where that fails us — and the electoral college will fail us, but it must be attempted, it is our constitutional duty to attempt to use the electoral college as it was intended, and it should be our joy to be defined and unified in that attempt— but where that fails us, we must seize and act upon the constitutional arguments and protections that have already been extensively provided by the courts in order to outright refuse the validity of this election.
Would we look like ‘sore losers’? Would we look stupid and petulant? To which idiots?? Do we care?? What, will that be our excuse for failure in this historic moment, “we thought we’d look bad”??
When said idiots come at us, let’s herd our *majority* of cats together, stand on solid ground and sing out, in one perfect voice: “For the Constitution.”
She absolutely, positively will not fail us, and we should be known by history for having refused to fail her.
