Why we read even in hard times:
- To open the doors of our mind, expand our hearts, and to learn many interesting things
- To talk with an author as we read
- To question
- To participate in a quest and have an adventure
- To be carried far away for a short time
- To see the past and the future and to examine the present
- To dream of what might be
- To learn to act
- To learn more about ourselves
- To know we are not alone
Something special is happening these next few weeks. On Wednesday nights at 9:00 PM EST, the DKos Bookclub is going to be discussing A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Read all about it here:

The other day, a nice person said they were afraid to list their books because they were not important enough. I felt really bad about that and I want to assure everyone that all books are welcome. I list and chat about all kinds of books.
At Bookflurries-Bookchat on Wednesday evenings at 8:00 PM EST, I open the door so anyone can come by and chat. My opening is:
Welcome to bookchat where you can talk about anything...books, plays, essays, and audio books. You don’t have to be reading a book to come in, sit down, and chat with us.
We are a friendly group. I have a theme and a poll to provoke discussion, but readers are free to just skip down to the comments and talk about what they wish.
I learn so much and my wish list is huge. Some past diaries are here:

If you click on this link, you will find the Group called Readers & Book Lovers:
