The New York Times showed a spine today.
They did not agree to a strictly off-record meeting at Trump Tower like the one yesterday where the God-Emperor let fly his divine anger on the TV networks that helped him win office, complaining (among other things) about an unflattering angle that showed too many chins.
The NYT agreed to two things: an off-record meeting to be followed by an on-record session with multiple staff members free to ask questions, for publication.
Trump (being Trump) decided unilaterally to break the agreement. Off-record only.
NYT said no thanks.
Trump (being Trump) then accused the NYT of breaking the agreement.
I will not link to Trump’s tweets, but he has declared war on the NYT (while leaving the door open for another possible meeting, perhaps hoping they’ll cave).
Yes, the NYT has much to answer for in the past.
They are now doing the right thing.

May others do likewise.
UPDATE: The meeting is on again after 3 hours, per the Guardian.
Sounds like the NYT won on the ground rules.
Meanwhile, Guardian also reports in the same story that the non-profit Committee to Protect Journalists has described Trump as a threat to press freedom.

Mogolori commented below with the NYT description of what happened. Thx!
