The morning after screaming at television news people, Donald Trump canceled his meeting with the New York Times, claiming that the newspaper had changed the terms of the meeting when really it was Trump who had done so, demanding it be off the record. But then the meeting was suddenly announced to be back on. Or was it?
How long is it going to take the media to start anticipating Trump’s games?
One major possibility here: By allowing an off the record meeting first, the New York Times is setting itself up for Trump to storm out before the on the record session. Then he’ll control the news that gets out about his off the record session, using this in his ongoing war against the newspaper and posturing for his supporters about how tough he was.
But no matter what happens, Trump didn’t change his mind on the Times meeting out of shame over having tried to back out of answering questions on the record.
