In multiple diaries, I’ve seen comments to the effect of “If Hillary weren’t such a terrible candidate” and variations thereof.
Yeah, you can knock that crap the hell off. Right now.
If you want to debate specifics of the campaign, fine. But let’s make note of a few things:
1) Right now, it is estimated in some quarters that Hillary will end up with about a 2.4 MILLION vote lead in the popular vote. That’s greater than the total population of any one of the 14 smallest states. More than New Mexico. More than Hawaii. More than New Hampshire. Not number of voters — total population. It’s only a little less than the total population of the four smallest states added together. It’s more popular votes than Obama received from the entire state of Virginia in 2008. Or North Carolina. Or New Jersey. Or Minnesota. Or a whooole lotta other states.
2) Hillary had to deal with elements beyond her control and beyond all expectation of normalcy for a campaign. Never before has a candidate been kneecapped by interference by a sitting FBI director. And then there was Wikileaks and the whole Russian hacking thing.
3) There’s a whooole lotta people out there that are apparently ok with electing the living embodiment of the worst elements of 4Chan and Reddit — in fact, not only ok with it, but downright enthusiastic about it. And the goobers turned out in droves for their Orangenfuhrer. Trump tapped into an undercurrent that few people expected to have the power it did.
4) Oh, and back to that popular vote thing again...Hillary will have won more popular votes than Obama did in ‘12, or indeed more popular votes than any white man that has ever run for the office.
5) Hillary will have won the popular vote by a greater percentage than 7 winning Presidential candidates, including JFK.
So, bottom line — if you’ve got something constructive to add to a conversation about how the DNC or the country can move forward, great. Wonderful. Happy to hear from you.
But if all you want to do is talk smack about what a “terrible” candidate Hillary was, just keep on walking.
Edit: Needed to clean up a couple typos that were bugging me.
