Short but sweet recap. Groups of Dem electors are trying to build support around the concept of working with Repub electors to keep Trump’s Electoral College total under 270. If no one gets 270, the House votes for president, each state gets one vote. Top 3 finishers in the Dec 19th EC vote are eligible. Dem’s can actually control who #3 would be in that vote by peeling off a few votes from Clinton. Yes, Clinton won the popular vote but most think it is a bridge too far to convince R electors to vote for her. Much further than the alternative “compromise candidate” solution anyway. www.hamiltonelectors.com has more details if you’re interested.
Now on to that part about getting rid of the Electoral College. Republican support for ending it would come from several directions (especially the Trump supporting direction) if the EC didn’t produce them a President Trump. Many Dems already want to get rid of it. So for the first time in recorded history, Dems and tea party types would be in agreement about something.
Idea needs a catchy phrase. Use it then lose it.
