I've seen people writing about how the left needs to talk to people on the right and find out what the people on the right want, so we can get their votes.
What the people on the right want is for their way of life to be the only way of life, and for the left to be just like them, or else disappear.
So stop talking of compromise. There is no compromise here, folks. The right is delusional, because it believes that Trumperdink can make good on his promises to bring back manufacturing and their 1950s way of life. It isn't going to happen. And they're never going to believe it until their towns are quite literally ghost towns, as all the people who can see the writing on the wall move to the big cities and assimilate there.
Reconciliation? Bipartisanship? Not going to happen. Stop trying. Put your energy elsewhere.
It's time for progressives, liberals, the entire left to realize that this is a war for our way of life — the one that we've spent the last fifty-plus years building. It's a war for civil rights. It's a war for privacy. It's a war for the New Deal protections for the poor and the sick. It's a war for level-headed governance. It's a war for marriage equality and bathroom protections and health care and equal rights. It's a war for economic regulations that keep us from having boom-and-bust cycles that impoverish half the nation while making 62 people filthy rich. It’s a war for the planet’s and our survival.
Either our side wins this war and we have equality, liberty, civil rights protections, and a social safety net, or their side wins and we're back to the stone age (or at least the Wild West), with every man for himself and every other person at risk.
It's time for us to realize that we will not be able to convince the right wing idiots who voted for Trumperdink. They are unconvinceable. It's time to either force them to grow up or leave them in the dust while history moves forward without them, not coddle them and hope they'll play nice.
Playing nice got us this disaster. Playing nice will not get us out of it.
So it's time to go on the offensive. It's time to attack, not defend. It's time to draw a line and defend it with our lives.
It's time to play for keeps, because only one side can win this war, and I'll be damned if my side loses (both literally and figuratively).
As I saw on Twitter multiple times before 11/8: They're fighting for their way of life. We are fighting for our lives.
