Unbelievable.
There may be more than a few dissenters when the Electoral College meets Monday — though not enough to deny Donald Trump the presidency.
That’s according to R.J. Lyman, the lawyer quietly advising a couple dozen Republican electors — all deliberating individually — about their right to break with their states’ majority vote to oppose Trump.
Lyman only knows how many are in contact with him. So the line about “not enough to deny Donald Trump the presidency” sounds like regular journalistic malpractice bullshit to me. But carrying on...
“A number of them are concerned about lawsuits, suing them personally, whether it’s the state party or the presumptive president elect or his team. These aren’t rich people,” said Lyman, who is coordinating a legal defense fund.
How obvious, right under our noses the whole time. While I could never understand why a minimal fine or other slap on the wrist penalty would be a deterrent for someone considering something of such importance — or Electors in states “unbound” by any Constitutionally questionable state imposed restrictions — the answer was right there, plain as the nose on your face.
The Republican Electors are afraid of being sued by Donald Trump.
It is his signature business move, after all. Use legal action — whether it has any basis in law or will likely prevail in an actual court action is immaterial — to intimidate those who cannot afford legal protection to defend themselves from a team of high priced legal mercenaries.
Fucking A — Donald Trump may bully his way into the White House the same way he’s conducted his entire business career. By threatening those with pockets not as deep as his own with legal defense costs that could bankrupt them.
I’m at a loss for words. And that doesn’t happen to me very often.
Unbelievable.
