Governor Jerry Brown (CA-D) spoke to a room filled with scientists Wednesday at the American Geophysical Union conference in San Francisco. He vowed to protect California’s progress in the fight against global warming and fight against Donald Trump and other Republicans’ plans of shutting down funding for important scientific research. Gov. Brown explained to the audience that California had more than enough lawyers and scientists who could and would be called upon to fight the lie that the Right is perpetrating on the world.
“And, if Trump turns off the satellites, California will launch its own damn satellite,” he added. “We’re going to collect that data.”

Later, he jabbed at former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who before becoming Trump’s pick for Energy Department secretary tried to poach jobs from California. “Rick, I got some news for you,” Brown said. “California is growing a hell of a lot faster than Texas. And we’ve got more sun than you have oil.”
