Kitchen Table Kibitzing wishes to express thoughts of love and light to those whose lives have been touched by Linda McClure, our Patriot Daily News Clearinghouse.
Glen, TLO, and I met her at J-Town, a Daily Kos community that brought together many who convene at KTK. We credit her with inspiring us to engage in climate activism both on line and off. Linda was courageous and inspiring; a trailblazer, eco warrior, activist who sought justice for our environment and brought to light the undercurrent of sexism and misogyny prevalent in health care.
I will forever cherish the discussions we had about cancer treatment. Our treatment plans differed only at the intersection of active and passive. We kvetched about the side effects and reflected on the effects the treatment had on our lives and bodies. Looking back, I see how she chose to live as fully as possible. If the cancer were to return, there would be no regrets at what she had been able to accomplish. Putting her environmental justice work at the forefront, the cancer itself held a smaller flame than her life long purpose.
I continue to wish, and more so now, that she would have joined us at Netroots Nation 2013, for we would have had the opportunity to hug one another and smile, face to face. And although I was told of the cancer’s return just weeks before, I thought I would have the opportunity to talk to her again. I grieve for her, and this missed opportunity.
PDNC will live on in my heart and through the work we’ll continue to do for our Earth and environment.
Feel free to express words of grief and loss, or share anything on your mind.
Our virtual kitchen is open. It’s a space with a few dents and creaks, but also wearing in with the warmth of everyone who enters.
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by and tell us about your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
Beginning January 1, 2017, KTK will post at 5:30PT/8:30ET.
