White House photographer Pete Souza has just released his eighth and final year of “Behind the Lens” White House photos. Besides the stellar shots, he includes descriptions of the photos, who is in them, and why they’re important.
Yes, it’s bittersweet to see these, but they’re wonderful. The Obamas in their finery, including Malia and Sasha going to their first state dinner. POTUS kneeling down to talk to a bathrobe-and-jammies-clad Prince George. POTUS with a variety of world leaders, or at play, or looking reflective.
And I didn’t know this was a thing, but apparently it is. Joe Biden squirting kids with a Super Soaker.
Pete Souza says this in his intro:
As always, the editing for this project is both subjective and personal. Yes, there are some historic moments included but mostly I was looking for behind-the-scenes moments that give people a more personal look at the President and First Lady. And I’ve included a few that I thought were just cool photos.
I hope you enjoy this final Year in Photographs of the Obama administration. It’s been the honor of a lifetime to be a witness to history these past eight years.
It’s been the honor of a lifetime for us to witness it, too. Here’s the link to all of the photos, and they’re all worth a look. One more shot, just to whet your interest:
