The likely 2020 class of Democratic presidential candidates is starting to resemble “an old-folks’ home,” according to retiring Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.
“It depends on who’s running,” Reid told the staffer, according to a New York Magazine profile of the Nevada Democrat published online Tuesday. “We’ve got [Elizabeth] Warren; she’ll be 71. Biden will be 78. Bernie [Sanders] will be 79.”
It isn't just them. The House Democratic Leader is 76. Her deputy, Jim Clyburn, is also 76. Her whip, Steny Hoyer, is 77. The Senate Democratic Leader, Chuck Shumer, is practically a spring chicken at 66. His whip, could be Dick Durbin at 72 or Patty Murray at 66.
In fact, the youngest Democratic leader in Washington or out in the states...is President Obama who seems to be the only Democrat to understand 55 is a good age to step the fuck out of the way.
This is the Democratic Old. Really, really old. Nothing fresh. Nothing new. Nothing interesting or exciting. Just lots and lots of old. Old thinking. Old people. Old everything. If you want to know why the Democrats are dying... its because theyre fucking old. You get old, you die. That's life.
Older voters, on average, skew Republican. This advantage is partially offset by the Democratic slant of younger voters, although older voters are more likely to vote. The average Republican is 50, while the average Democrat is 47.
The average age of the Democratic House leadership is 64. It's 53 for Republicans. In America, Republicans are increasingly the party of older Americans. But in Congress, that's still the Democrats.
Literally, the Democratic leadership is a whole generation removed from their average voter. Republicans are in line with their voters.
First thing we need to fix, for those that care about the future, is to get rid of the current roster of old has beens and send them to into retirement.
