It snowed in central Virginia yesterday.
But that did not stop these Young Democrats from canvassing for Ryant Washington in Lynchburg, Va.
You rock, VAYD!
Today I want to thank Dairy Kos and its readers. Here’s why.
Here is a map made by DK’s genius mapster Stephen Wolf, who produces fabulously nerdy maps with data.
As you can see, Virginia’s SD-22 has been carried by Republicans in the past.
Mark Peake and Joe Hines are running as if only a conservative and a Republican should win it. They are running with Republican entitlement .
This is a Special Election.
Ryant Washington is putting up one hell of a fight.
In Special Elections, only committed voters will come out because it is all about the ground game. And Ryant Washington has a ground game.
And, I think many people are overlooking the fact that the Democratic candidate this time is a grassroots guy. He has a history in the district as a humanistic, everyday person.
He has the backing of the Democratic Party, the governing administration in Richmond, Tim Kaine, our senator, and in all these counties, he has support from people who know him, who are part of the counties governments and schools and businesses, and lastly from ordinary people like me, who have met him, albeit in passing.
And, just as importantly, he has support here in Daily Kos too. Many of you who have stepped up and supported him with money.
Do you know what you Kossacks have done? Let me show you —
Do you see that? That’s money advantage which Ryant Washington — the Democrat! — has because of the many Kossacks who have stepped up and donated.
Thank you, Daily Kos!
The Democrat, in this district, is out-raising the Republicans. And in these last days, he needs to raise a bit more to carry it to a good finish.
Also, if you can help make phone calls —
State Senate District 22
And more good news — Democracy for America has come out and backed the democratic candidate for SD-22 — Ryant Washington.
Yeah, that happened, because DFA recognizes that the campaign that Ryant Washington is running in Virginia’s Senate District 22, is people powered because the candidate himself puts people first:
Quote from Democracy for America Electoral Director Annie Weinberg on today’s endorsement of Sheriff Washington:
“Sheriff Ryant Washington not only gives VA State Senate District 22 voters the opportunity to send a committed public servant to Richmond, he also gives them the chance to end Republican control of the State Senate and ensure the state’s upper chamber is actually working for working families, not just the wealthy and powerful.
“Democracy for America members in Virginia and across the country are excited to stand with Sheriff Ryant Washington because the Old Dominion desperately needs another champion for health care, public education, and the rights of women in the State Senate and that’s exactly what he’ll be.” -- Annie Weinberg, Electoral Director, Democracy for America
Here is a fellow Kossack who has canvassed for Ryant Washington, as a prelude to his own run.
I’m certain that Mr. Ryant Washington will provide leadership for Democratic causes in the Virginia Senate.
Mr. Ryant Washington is a member of 90for90.Org , which was created in honor of Dr. William Ferguson Reid Sr. It is an organization which actively encourages voter participation by registering more voters.
Governor Terry McAuliffe is a sensible man, as is Virginia’s Commissioner of the Department of Elections — because of the snowfall on Friday and Saturday — they’ve extended the deadline for in-person absentee voting:
With Gov. Terry McAuliffe declaring a state of emergency Friday due to fast-approaching inclement weather, the Commissioner of the Department of Elections extended the Saturday in-person absentee voting deadline for the three legislative special elections occurring Tuesday in multiple localities across the commonwealth.
Snip.
The new deadline is Monday at 2 p.m. to ensure appropriate access for all eligible voters who may be unable to go to the polls Tuesday and unable to vote absentee in person Saturday due to the declared state of emergency. The deadline to return a mailed absentee ballot for the special election is Tuesday at 7 p.m. LINK
*Bolding, mine.
- Please remember— the in-person absentee voting deadline has been extended for three Virginia special elections to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9.
And —
- The deadline to return a mailed absentee ballot for the special election is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10.
