Meryl Streep has been my favorite actress since I saw her over 30 years ago in Sophie's Choice. I thought she was absolutely brilliant and have followed her career since. Tonight she received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Golden Globes. When she began to speak and said she had lost her voice due to lamenting, I thought, "She is bright and caring; this has to be regarding the Electoral College victory of Trump." I was correct. She proceeded to discuss the importance of Hollywood and all the various types of people working there and portrayed there as we attempt to better understand each other. She then brought up truly the most poignant example of why this intolerant, hate-filled man should not serve as president; he mimicked a disabled reporter. The absolute audacity! I know EDUCATORS who voted for this man, people who are supposed to be dedicated to bringing out the best in all the children sent their way, regardless of disabilities or color or family history. These two facts cannot be reconciled. My heart continues to break and I remain embarrassed for our country in front of the world. Joseph Welch questioned Senator Joseph McCarthy in the Army-McCarthy Hearings, "At long last, have you no sense of decency?' The same question could be asked of our nation.
