It's Interesting when you do some leg work and dig through exit polls of the past. Looking back at the 2012 exit polls trying to STILL figure out what the Hell went wrong in 16 I noticed something:
Obama ran WORST than Clinton in Wisconsin Michigan and Pennsylvania on the economy there.
Romney actually beat him on the economy in two out of those three states. Romney Beat Obama 51-47 on the economy nationwide. The auto bailout kept Romney's margins down on the economy In Ohio and Wisconsin, and helped Obama squeak out a win on that topic in Michigan. The Aca however drove his victories in those states.... and nationwide.

Clinton, thanks To Obama, ran better on the economy. Trump making Immigration and terrorism separate from foreign policy is one of the reasons he was able to make up ground.

Is it safe to say the Aca saved the day in 2012?
The biggest reason folks assumed Clinton didn't win by Obama Margins with working class voters had everything to do with the economy.... well healthcare IS an economic issue. Poor and working-class folks are more likely to have poor or no health care benefits and OVERWHELMINGLY chose Obama in 12.

However, many workers do not have access to employer-sponsored insurance. Currently, businesses are not legally required to offer a health benefit. The majority of uninsured workers are not offered health insurance by their employer.3 Some people work in firms that cover some employees but are not themselves eligible for coverage, often because they have not worked for their employer for a sufficient amount of time or because they do not work enough hours. Among firms that offer health benefits in 2013, an average of 77% of their workers are eligible for coverage.4
The cost of employer-sponsored coverage is the most common reason employers cite for not offering health coverage.5 In 2013, annual employer-sponsored premiums averaged $5,884 for individual coverage and $16,351 for family coverage. Total family premiums, as well as the employee’s share of those premiums, have risen by over 70% in the last ten years.
Firms with many low-wage workers are less likely to offer coverage than firms with fewer low-wage workers. In 2013, only 23% of firms that had a high proportion (>35%) of low-wage employees offered health insurance.6 By comparison, 60% of firms with a low proportion of low-wage employees offered health insurance. However, when offered coverage, the majority of all employees choose to enroll.
Folks in 2012 thought the aca would be a magic bullet, solve all their problems and with the horrible rollout of healthcare.gov and RELENTLESS POUNDING from the right (and) left, the aca lost the luster and political potency on our side that it had for Barack in 2012. We heard alot in the democratic primary about the aca NOT GOING FAR ENOUGH.
Thanks Obama.
