Good Morning Village Peeps and Friends who are just visiting. I’ve been feeling pretty blue the closer we get to January 20th. It feels like Trump and the GOP are attempting to neuralize the entire planet and make us think that the last 8 years of GOP obstructionism is a figment of our imagination. That Democrats wanting to ensure that the vetting process for Trump appointees is actually completed appropriately and transparently, is somehow a new, shocking and partisan trick to prevent government from working. The attempted gas lighting is so pervasive, that I think I’m suffering signs of hypoxia.
Sorry, (shakes head to clear) the neutralizer ain’t gonna work this time! Some of us aren't buying the lemonade the denizens of Trumpland are selling- we are not the Trump kids bodyguards, maids or drivers who need to remain in Dada Trump’s good books and employ. We do not need to look in to Donald Trump’s heart because his words assure us that if he actually has one, it is at least 10 sizes too small and not even remotely engaged by any concern not his own. Democrats and like minded individuals do not need to “grow up”. We are already are the only grown ups in a room full of whiny Republican babies named Mitch, Ryan, Jason, Trey etc.... Nope, the wholesale gish galloping by Team Trump, the twittervomit of PECOTUS and the hypocrisy of the Turtle & CO will not distract of from our goals. We Will Fight. We Will Resist. We Will Sing.
Why sing? MLK tells us why:
‘The freedom songs are playing a strong and vital role in our struggle. They give the people new courage and a sense of unity. I think they keep alive a faith, a radiant hope, in the future, particularly in our most trying hours.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.
So today instead of news, I bring you music. Specifically, I bring you a few songs and anthems that helped power the civil rights movement from before it was called Civil Rights, comfort people when they were lonely or confused and empower people right up to today. I’ve tried to include music that represents a broad span of issues and I hope you all can hear the power in each. The music will appear in no specific order may not all be recognizable from marches or as “Freedom Songs” but I hope you will join me in reflecting on the meaning of these songs, their relevance today and perhaps contribute some of your own.
.
There are so many to choose from but I suspect I am wearing out people’s patience so I’m going to end with three last songs.
One is to remind us that no matter how politicians, the media, neighbours or even family members try to normalize Trump, we do not need to conform, that we do not need to live in little boxes (although everyone who drinks, should drink their martinis dry!).

This song is another anthem and I had to include it — I just had to Village Peeps!

Finally, one last song for one amazing woman. Thank you for fighting the good fight HRC. You are an inspiration to me even now in these most trying hours..
Cheers all and happy chatting.
