House Speaker Paul Ryan and his fellow Congressional Republicans have been promising a full repeal of the Affordable Care Act and although they’ve had seven full years to come up with a replacement plan, they’ve got absolutely nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Nothing but empty promises to come up with a replacement somewhere down the line. In the meantime, millions will lose affordable insurance, jobs will be lost, cancer screenings and preventative care will vanish, and make no mistake about it—lives will be lost.
Republicans and particularly Paul Ryan must be feeling the heat because yesterday they launched a full-on assault on the Affordable Care Act on social media, saying Democrats are “trying to scare Americans”:
Think Paul Ryan sends that out unless they are feeling the heat? No way. In fact, he sent a string of tweets, and in a coordinated campaign, began retweeting other Republicans who simultaneously took to social media to bash the Affordable Care Act. One such message was from Congressman Tom Rice. Check out his tweet and a sample of the enormous blowback from constituents:
Congressman Kevin Yoder of Kansas, who won re-election in an unusually competitive race, was also torched by constituents:
The bottom line is this—they are getting the message. They may not like it, but they are hearing us and we simply have to keep at it. We cannot let them unwind our progress. The Affordable Care Act does need to be fixed, but a repeal with no plan is unacceptable. So keep at it, resistance fighters!
