I cut the cord on my cable TV a few months ago. After over 8 years of getting a special price of $20 a month, Comcast wanted to raise it to $50. No thanks. There isn’t $50 worth of good TV on regular cable.
A friend of mine brought me over an antenna and a digital converter he had. That’s right, the TV I use most, the one in the kitchen, is analog.
Now, I do have a very fancy TV in my den that a client gave me, with a Roku stick that Ann and Sara R were kind enough to gift me. They knew that I was watching TV on my computer and that with the Lymphedema I got with my cancer, I’m supposed to sit with my feet up.
I also have a TV another client gave me that is hooked up to my DVD/VCR combo. Yes, I still watch video’s and don’t get me started on albums. (“When will humans recognize the superiority of vinyl?”3rd Rock)
At any rate, we hooked up the TV to the converter and the antenna and went around the dial to see what I got. 27 stations in all, but none were NBC, CBS, or ABC. I had one PBS station that came in kind of, sort of, if the wind was blowing just right.
What I did get, in amazingly crystal clear living colors, was Jesus! Jesus! On 10 fucking channels on my TV. God was everywhere and had the power to cut through whatever interference the broadcast networks were struggling with.
It was then I came to believe in the power of God. 10 of the other channels that my antenna pulled in perfectly were home shopping network channels. No problems with them at all. I already believed strongly in the power of shopping though, so that was no surprise.
In the end I came to see it wasn’t really the power of God, it was evangelical ministries with big bucks, and I lost my short lived faith. I still believe in the power of shopping though and when I’m not at Goodwill, I’m here at Daily Kos using the Kos Katalogue.
This is local shopping at it’s finest. Buying from Daily Kos members or their families, and boy do we have some incredible artisans here. Goods and Services offered aplenty.
Not quite as well organized as Goodwill, but worth looking through stuff to find the gems. It is full of fantastic stuff. I’m showing below some that I’ve only recently stumbled across:
~I’ve been looking for a wall clock and found some great looking ones at David M Bowman’s Studio
~Dorothea’s Closet Vintage is an amazing store that sells vintage clothes from every era.

~ SteelerGrrl has a shop, LittleLotteStudio that has fantastic tye-dye everything. I saw a few pairs of these socks once in passing and they were gorgeous.
~I could fill my walls with art from Daniels Marks shop.
~OPAL sells beautiful posters here.

That is only 1/1000th of what is available from out incredible community members. Be sure to check them out. I have actually clicked on each store at one time or another but then I am a big believer in shopping. Though, I have noticed a distinct lack of note cards and detective services; the Katalogue is updated on a regular basis so if you don’t see what you are looking for now, check back. Often.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
