...The runner-up was a petition to designate the Westboro Baptist Church a hate group.
That is the headline from the report posted by Daniel Marans @ HuffPo Politics on January 26, 2017, updated two days ago (with another video @ link). So if this has already been covered here @ Daily Kos, sorry for the repeat posting,..but just in case anybody missed it..
With all the diversionary tactics coming from the White House it seemed like a good idea to remember that Donald Trump is in violation of the Constitution, and has been the moment he swore to protect it.
Despite repeated claims made by the Trump regime…
White House adviser Kellyanne Conway reaffirmed on Sunday that Trump doesn’t plan to release his returns.
“We litigated this all through the election,”
Conway said on ABC.
“People didn’t care.”
people do care. They care a lot.
The petition demands that the federal government explain what it is doing to “immediately release Donald Trump’s full tax returns, with all information needed to verify emoluments clause compliance.” It garnered over 100,000 signatures within 24 hours of the president’s inauguration and has become the subject of a New York Times editorial.
“The unprecedented economic conflicts of this administration need to be visible to the American people, including any pertinent documentation which can reveal the foreign influences and financial interests which may put Donald Trump in conflict with the emoluments clause of the Constitution,”
states a brief description of the petition.
By Thursday afternoon the petition garnered 368,000 signatures, surpassing the previous record of 367,180.
The previous record-holder called for the United States government to
“legally recognize the Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group.”
Seems to me from listening and reading up on the news these past few weeks that most people have a pretty good idea what kind of “businessman” Donald Trump really is. It’s only fair we know now how much his tenure, short or however long it may prove to be, is going to cost us, in blood, treasure, and our democracy itself..and not just the American people, but people all around the world
.
— this, and many other issues being blanketed by the sheer volume of malfeasance coming from the White House is an important one. Too important and costly to let the current republican administration slide out from under this unscathed — imo

with this update on another topic from Juan Cole that is spot on:
Here is just a couple of small excerpts:
By far the majority of terrorist acts and political violence in the United States is committed by white supremacists.
..the real threat is from the Donald Trumps/Steve Bannon/KellyConway types — all of them, republicans:
It would be really bad if we got more white supremacists from abroad through immigration, since they are a clear terrorist threat. The head of German intelligence recently warned that far right extremist groups in his country are hooking up with US gangs and planning attacks.
..iow’s the truth about who is terrorizing people in this country (U.S.) and around the globe
