As the news seems to deteriorate by the hour, I am finding it difficult to generate happy thoughts.
One of my happy thoughts, though, is of the holiday season in 2008 when my then-boss gave the staff gift cards worth $150 to the Lettuce Entertain You restaurant of my choice.
My best friend at the time bragged that the absolute best tasting meal that she’d ever had was a Blue Cheese Crusted Filet Mignon dinner at Wildfire, a restaurant near the Magnificent Mile in Chicago.
So, as one of my Christmas presents to her, off we went on a surprise jaunt down to Wildfire.
She ordered the Blue Cheese Crusted Filet Mignon that she’d had before and as she took the first bite, I realized that this was probably the closet that I’ll ever get to seeing a woman with an orgasmic look on her face.
And then she said, understandably, that, no, it wasn’t quite the feeling that she’d had the first time she had that meal, lol.
I remember having the best Beef Wellington that I’ve ever had at Wildfire...and I’d had some really good BW previous to that...but that was the best.
When it comes to favorite meals at restaurants, though, there are two others that I remember even more fondly than that BW...probably because they were breakfast meals.
The most memorable (and tasty) meal that I have ever had was at a restaurant in Portland, Oregon. I cannot recall the name, but I do remember that I ordered a pancake with strawberry drizzle, whipped cream, etc.
I happened to be really, really hungry at the time so I decided to add Denver omelet onto my order.
The BF warned me against this but I didn’t listen to him.
The pancake came to the table. The biggest, fluffiest, tastiest pancake that I’d ever had before or since.
And then the yuge! omelet me to the table...and it was just as tasty.
I ate all of the omelet and roughly ½ of the pancake and took the other half home and ate off of it for two days.
My other most memorable meal was at a crowded diner (which seemed to cater mostly to truckers) called Miss Muffet’s, which used to be right off 79th St. and Western Ave. in Chicago
The meal was ordinary sounding enough (omelet, hash browns, pancakes, coffee) but it was divine tasting!
Possibly the reason I remember this meal so well is that the place was PACKED that Sunday morning with people standing outside the door yet we all received our plates with the quickness.
Of course, “we all” includes another previous BF, which might be the moral to the story...that having a partner for the moment makes dining out all the better!
Today’s question:
What is the best meal that you’ve ever had while dining out?
