Senate Democrats on Monday blocked a committee vote on President Trump’s Treasury secretary nominee as pressure mounts among the minority to oppose the new administration’s Cabinet picks.
Democrats blocked a routine procedural step that would have allowed the Senate Finance Committee to vote on whether to recommend Steven Mnuchin be confirmed as Treasury secretary by the full Senate. The committee will vote on Mnuchin’s nomination Tuesday morning, when it will also consider Rep. Tom Price’s (R-Ga.) nomination to be secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
Update 12:25 PDT- I contacted the Senate Finance Offices and provided the story. Asking for email addresses helps. Majority communications email julia_lawless@finance.senate.gov.
I know people are all over other picks but this would be putting a crook in charge of the treasury. I think this is as bad as it gets. He wants to use the IRS to go after the middle class, shake them down to go after the deficit. You know, the people who can’t afford to fight legally. This is a guy who helped clients avoid taxes by having off shore accounts!
Please help and get this story out, this guy is bad news. The vote is tonight, I included this list of members of the Senate Finance Committee. I posted the link to the original news story on all of their Twitter accounts. If someone could do the Facebook pages and send emails to their office, much appreciated. www.dispatch.com/...Thanks.
Senate Finance Committee (202-224-4515), fax (202-228-0554). Demand another hearing. Time is short.
Trump treasury pick Mnuchin misled Senate on foreclosures, Ohio cases show
Jill Riepenhoff The Columbus Dispatch
President Donald Trump's nominee for U.S. treasury secretary was untruthful with the Senate during the confirmation process, documents uncovered by The Dispatch show.
Steve Mnuchin, former chairman and chief executive officer of OneWest Bank, known for its aggressive foreclosure practices, flatly denied in testimony before the Senate Finance Committee that OneWest used "robo-signing" on mortgage documents.
But records show the bank utilized the questionable practice in Ohio.
"The guy is just lying. There's no other way to say it," said Bill Faith, executive director of the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio.
The revelation comes with the committee's vote on whether to confirm Mnuchin's nomination, currently scheduled for Monday night. Full Story From Columbus Dispatch
