White House Minister of Propaganda Press Secretary Sean Spicer is another cheetah that can’t change his spots. Puts him right in line with his Embarrassment in Chief. From the time that Reince Priebus installed him in the Trump campaign as a preferred mouthpiece, he has been arrogant, aggressive, and showed a complete contempt of the press. In other words, he was a total dick. His shouted tantrum a week ago Saturday about Der Gropinfuhror’s crowd size was a national shame.
He thinks he’s changed. He no longer yells and slashes his hand angrily, instead he speaks with a slightly raised voice, leaning over the podium as he spews his vile lies, and contests every little point. In other words, once a dick, always a dick.
But the words coming out of his mouth, along with other administration officials is not just vaguely disturbing, it’s positively alarming. First Steve Bannon called the media the “opposition party”, and told them to :just shut up and listen for a while”. In his press conference today, Mold Spice was questioned about the “dissent channel” letter that was circulating around the State Department. Spicer’s reply was typical, dismissive and stupid, kinf of like dropping the hammer on your bare foot;
“These career bureaucrats have a problem with it?” he said during his daily press briefing. “I think they should either get with the program or they can go.”
Clearly the new administration has drawn the battle lines. They are taking shit from nobody, and they’re not shy about saying it out loud. That response from Spicer caused great concern at the State Department, the Dissent Channel” was set up decades ago, as a safe way for foreign service and staff officers to respectfully disagree with a particular policy. Now, they’re worried about retribution from the administration.
Make no mistake about it. We are now in a national life or death struggle for our identity and our principles. This is not the time to submit, the bully wins when you do what he wants, and it only emboldens him to see what more he can get away with. That’s why I was so proud of the Democratic congressman who made a public announcement that any department whistle blowers could come directly to his office, they would be protected.
None of us can back down. The media needs to grow a bigger pair, call out Spicer and anybody else who open his mouth even more loudly and pointedly, and continue to dig and report on actual facts that may be uncomfortable to the tinpot dictators. Dissenters must continue to speak in these departments, hell, they could probably make more money in the private sector anyway. And all of us must continue to take to the streets whenever necessary, and flood our MoC’s with phone calls and visits to hold this shit in check. They can bluff and bluster all they want, but right now they’re back on their heels, nothing is working out how they thought it would, and Trump doesn’t take lightly to having his ego dented. Time to turn up the heat even more.
