You can check here for the intro to DK Fans of 90 for 90’s take on Black History Month. We want to honor folks who are making history in any and every way we can. Everyday, all day.
I have just a short but powerful submission today and it’s about Daniel Beaty. I first heard him do spoken word poetry; which he does so well. He is also an actor, a singer, a writer, an activist, and a winner of too many awards to mention here.
Here he is doing one of my favorite poems by him:
I am so glad I can finally raise my hands above my head because I can’t listen to this without ending up with my hands in the air. The first time I ever watched it I was on my feet, clapping my hands above my head, with tears streaming down my face.
We are still here, still alive, still breathing,
with the power to change this world.
One little boy and girl at a time.
Knock, knock. Who’s there?
WE ARE!
