Immediately after Donald Trump announced his executive plan to build a Mexican Border Wall to keep immigrants out, and then followed that action with an Executive Order banning Muslims from entering the country, protestors around the world gathered in tens of thousands against him. But less than two days after the Muslim Ban was issued, an interview was published showing Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey telling Britain’s BBC that Hollywood was too hard on Trump — and needed to “give the guy a break.” The Guardian reports that while promoting his new film Gold, McConaughey, who is married to Camila Alves — an immigrant from Brazil, also said we should embrace the fact that Trump is president.
Here is the excerpt from the interview:
“He’s our president,” he continued. “And it’s very dynamic and as divisive of an inauguration and time that we’ve ever had. At the same time, it’s time for us to embrace, shake hands with this fact, and be constructive with him over the next four years. So, even those who most strongly may disagree with his principles or things he’s said and done — which is another thing, we’ll see what he does compared to what he had said — no matter how much you even disagreed along the way, it’s time to think about how constructive can you be. Because he’s our president for the next four years. At least.”
How very elitist and hypocritical of McConaughey. Wonder who he voted for. Wonder how his wife feels about his views on Trump. Perhaps Matthew McConaughey should tell thousands of immigrants, like his wife, who will be affected by Trump’s racist rhetoric and actions, and possibly die as a result, they too should not only cut the hate-monger Trump a break, but embrace the new “president.” I know, cause — can’t we all just get along? Disgusting.
To share your thoughts with McConaughey (hopefully, without Trump’s brand of hate), you can message him on Facebook or Twitter (or both).
