Morning Village Peeps! I hope everyone is feeling a little more settled after the unwelcome “excitement” of last week. I know I am still feeling a little off and less inclined to visit the blog myself but I am trying to get beyond that. Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on how you look at it), 2017 came with a built in car wreck that generates one crazy story after another ...leaving a body with no room to ruminate, no room for complacency and no room to ignore the need to post Tuesday’s morning open thread. So here we go...
Gawds! Can a day not go by without some new CT from the White House???
Jim Acosta is not the only journo that is scratching his head.
While anyone being killed in a terrorist attack is horrific, the numbers of deaths pale in comparison to domestic deaths related to firearms. Perhaps the White House should give the same consideration it gives to preventing terrorists from entering the USA, to the lives lost thanks to guns. COMMON SENSE GUN CONTROL IS NEEDED NOW!
Where is HR when you need them? These people need to hear “You’re Fired.”
While I love all the reality based reporting recently, freaking CNN is a bit late to the table with this. Maybe they should have barred CONway when she first took on the Campaign Manager role and it immediately became clear that her credibility was MIA. Jeekers, Trump and CONway were a match made in hell then, and they are even more egregious and arrogant now.
Speaking of staff the White House’s questionable Press Secretary Sean Spicer strikes again — it is very sad that we are not “applauding” Donald Trump’s Muslim Ban and damn those paid astroturfing, professional protesters.
BTW, I know IRL there are professional agitators. In fact it might actually be a growth industry! Donald Trump might just be responsible for job growth in one sector at least ;-) Sadly that “growth”, might be counteracted by an economic contraction.
From the article.
“President Trump may be able to temporarily hold off the sweep of automation and globalization by cajoling companies to keep jobs at home, but bolstering inefficient and uncompetitive enterprises is likely to only temporarily stave off market forces,” he continued. “While they might be popular, the reason the U.S. long ago abandoned protectionist trade policies is because they not only don’t work, they actually leave society worse off.”
In more S.S. news (btw, I would not want to have those initials in this particular WH)
From the article
More than being lampooned as a press secretary who makes up facts, it was Spicer’s portrayal by a woman that was most problematic in the president’s eyes, according to sources close to him. And the unflattering send-up by a female comedian was not considered helpful for Spicer’s longevity in the grueling, high-profile job, where he has struggled to strike the right balance between representing an administration that considers the media the "opposition party," and developing a functional relationship with the press.
"Trump doesn't like his people to look weak," added a top Trump donor.
I don’t understand this donor is saying this — NOBODY has more respect for women than Trump so why would SS being portrayed by a woman make SS look weak???
…….
WTF???
Clean Up in Country X.
Money, Money, Money ...it really is a rich man President’s world when expenditures like this seem just fine. If he sees no issues with this colossal waste of money, what is he going to do with the national debt?
This just made me howl. Delusion with a capital DELUSION.
What’s Happening Today (although this is the Age of Trump of I’m sure some statement or another will be issued from the WH that will cause an incident somewhere).
1) The big fight today is the DeVos nomination. Senate Dem’s have been holding the floor all night. Here is a link for the live stream. www.c-span.org/...
I gotta say I like what I am hearing from Dem’s. HOLD STRONG!!!
Here is the link for the Senate Dem’s Twitter feed. It is a bit slow right now but I expect it to hot up through the day. twitter.com/...
2) The Muslim Ban gets another hearing today, this time in San Francisco. It is not until 3 pm Pacific time though so hopefully, along with DeVos going down) people will have more than one good reason to break out the bourbon, wine or beer this evening in celebration of some sanity prevailing in the USA.
3) Finally tonight Bernie and Ted Cruz debate live on CNN about the ACA. While I will be thrilled to see Ted Cruz have his butt handed to him, I really hope Bernie is prepared well. While we all know that the ACA is the humane, right choice for America and that all liberals will be pulling for Bernie on this issue, Cruz has skills from his time on the Princeton Debate team. He is also a world class word weasel and as slippery as an eel though (apologies to the Animal Kingdom). I sincerely hope that Bernie is on his game and that the ACA and the American people come out the winner. I’m sure someone on DKOS will be hosting a live debate thread if people are interested.
Should be an interesting evening.
Anyway, that is all for me folks. Happy chatting.
