No, this is not a treatise on Trump’s mental unfitness to be the President. I’m not a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist, I’ll leave that to others to debate and decide. I have a more practical and prescient point to make, one which does not require a bunch of letters after my name.
Forget about Mein Furor’s mental “state”, there is another reason why he’s uniquely unsuited to do this job. Why? Because he’s a spoiled fucking brat. Pure and simple. He has always known power and authority, in his early life to start with. The only discipline he ever learned was when his father shipped him off to a military academy for high school so that they could have a break from the irascible brat they had sired. And, like a true chameleon, he adapted.
In business, it has never been anything but the same thing. Trump works for himself, he is the one in charge, and nobody tells him what to do. He may take sage counsel from trusted underlings, and sometimes from his children, but the final decision is always his.
The problems started in the primary. He eschewed traditional courtesy, and as a political outsider threw the norms on it’s head, insulting sitting Senators and Governors with impunity, as well as former Governors and Senators. Once he was installed firmly as the front runner, and then the official candidate, he openly feuded with the RNC, directly threatening to cut them off, and go it on his own if they didn’t submit to his superiority. He won again.
There’s the rub. Trump doesn’t give, and Trump doesn’t negotiate, unless it’s from a position of power. And there lies the problem. Trump is now at the pinnacle of power, but only of one branch of the federal government. There are two other equal and separate branches of government, and they both protect their respective turfs vociferously. But the Orange Julius doesn’t understand that. He’s the alpha dog, everyone else is subservient to him.
First, he stepped on his dick with the judiciary. I will not pretend to be a psychic, and to have a clue as to what was in the head of the federal judge in Washington, but I can’t help but wonder if he thought back to what a pile of shit that Der Gropinfuhror heaped on the head of his fellow federal judge for nothing more than being the child of Mexican American Immigrants. And now I can’t help but wonder how the three judges in the 9th federal court of appeals will look at the way that the Inglorious Basterd savaged their brother, claiming that any new attack would be at the feet of the judge.
But let’s not leave it there. Trump has savaged the GOP in Congress, in both houses. But the problem is that for all of his campaign promises, Trump needs the GOP legislature to be on board to enact any of it. And a lot of it is not in what they consider as their best interests. And Trump has already stepped on their toes. He has repeatedly promised to both save and improve both Social Security and Medicare, which Paul Ryan desperately wants to do away with. He has promised that the repeal of Obamacare will have a seamless vote on a replacement plan, which the GOP has no ability to do, although over the last day or so, The SS Trumptanic has said that the replacement may have to slide into next year.
Let’s face it, this is a hot mess. I don’t care what kind of press releases or leaks they let out showing that the West Wing is becoming more structured after a rocky start, it doesn’t matter. Until Trump realizes that there are at least two other groups of people that he has to treat as equals, this administration is not going to get jack shit done. And in the process, they are going to give us fodder going into 2018 and beyond.
