I have finished:
Counterculture Through the Ages: From Abraham to Acid House by Ken Goffman- This survey of countercultures through the ages was, overall, quite fun, ending with 21st century techno-culture.
In these times, it’s also a good reminder that neither individuals nor the culture should take itself too seriously even when we have to take ourselves and the culture very seriously now. The sense of Play is very, very important to any concept of counterculture and, I would propose, resistance.
I am reading:
Murder in the Bastille by Cara Black- Still suffering from a bit of fried brain so this was the only other book that I could even begin to make my way through. Overall, I like the mystery to this point but Fred Vargas is a much better writer...although the mystery, itself, in Murder in the Bastille is a little more enjoyable than Vargas’ This Night’s Foul Work. Vargas is much better at drawing characters, although the owner of the PR firm (?) is wonderfully frantic.
Need moar MURDER mysteries
Tristia by Ovid- On Ex Ponto. Still
