I don't know, maybe she had her reasons, but when Nancy Pelosi declared in 2006 that, “Impeachment is off the table.” I and I imagine many of my fellows were disappointed in the new Speaker. We had control of the House where impeachment starts, but she killed it. Even the investigations we were promised failed to get any traction. Bush was clearly incompetent and crimes had been committed, but all that was ignored. And that helped embolden the Rethugs, because they had no fear of accountability.
Fast forward to this week. Minority Leader Pelosi is again quashing any impeachment talk because, she says, “He hasn't done anything to impeach him for yet."
Madam, take your pick. His continued conflicts of interest line his pockets, he has violated the nepotism prohibition, he has criticized the U.S. while praising the murderous dictator Putin, he wants to send Federal troops to Chicago, and threatened to destroy a Texas State Senator for proposing asset forfeiture reform, where the cops can take your property before due process has begun, instead of after conviction. He has filled his cabinet with the biggest set of Crooks since Capone ran Chicago, he is being sued for defamation by women he has sexually assaulted (allegedly). The list goes on.
All the pundits are talking about a looming Constitutional Crisis, but it was already here when he was allowed to take the oath of office. If the Democrats retake the House or Senate in 2018 (and that’s possible if we tie the thugs to the Twitterer in Chief), we must demand that Pelosi either stand against the destruction of our democracy or step aside.
