So, I finally got through to Sen. Ron Johnson’s and Rep. Paul Ryan’s offices today, after days and days of not being able to get through. Which just tells me: People, you’re slacking off!! Get those phones ringing again! Jam those voicemails!
Today’s topic: the repeal of Dodd-Frank. As in...my IRA’s lost a boatload of money in 2008 — Americans as a whole lost $11 trillion in household savings — and they’re FINALLY back to where they were before. But now I’m retired, and if we have another Republican-caused crash, I’ll be in big trouble. Dodd-Frank was put into place prevent Wall Street investors and big bank owners from making huge profits at our expense. Keep those regulations in place!
Or, how about this...I just called Johnson’s office and gave the person an earful about how shabbily he and Mitch McConnell treated Elizabeth Warren yesterday. Since they later allowed two men to read King’s letter, it’s clear that this was directly aimed at Warren. Why? They’re scared of powerful women. They see her as the up-and-coming threat to them, like Hillary Clinton was, and they’re going to do everything possible to shut her down. Shame on him! (I actually said, “Shame on him!”)
And Lord knows there’s always some corrupt thing in the news about Tom Price and Steve Mnuchin.
I know it takes a ton of energy to keep up this level of activism. But especially you folks who are lucky enough to be retired — take one or two minutes a day to let your representatives know how you feel. Let’s keep the pressure on these guys! They shall not have a day’s peace as long as they continue to try to dismantle the America we know and love!
