The count currently stands at two football players. I am anticipating that there will be more who will choose the route of resistance rather than stand with a president who intends to make the lives of traditionally marginalized minorities and women much more arduous.
Devin McCourty and Martellus Bennett are the two players who have made the decision to boycott the traditional visit to the WhiteHouse post Superbowl. Predictably, these conscientious objectors have received much hate from Trump supporters and racists. Invectives such as stinky, cotton picker, monkey, and organ grinder have been slung at these two brave men by deplorables.
After winning the Superbowl three years ago, Tom Brady opted out of visiting President Obama at the WhiteHouse, choosing to shop for a watch at the AppleStore instead:
As Stephen A. Smith likes to say: “That was so disrespectful.”
Trump supporters and hate mongers didn’t seem to mind Tom Brady’s intentional snub so much. Racism breeds stupidity and rank hypocrisy.
The majority of New England players are black men. Wouldn’t it be awesome if all of them chose to forgo a trip to the WhiteHouse? Perhaps they could rub salt into the would by posting pictures on their Twitter accounts of what they were doing instead of standing in the WhiteHouse with a reputed rapist/racist? What a statement that would be!
