Since I was a young boy there were three things you could always be sure of: death, taxes, and Republican senator Orrin Hatch being such a raging hypocrite that even hypocrites walk the other way when they see him. Last night Mitch McConnell and the rest of the Republican death eaters celebrated Black History Month by trying to protect Sen. Jeff Sessions from a public reading of a Coretta Scott King letter skewering his civil rights record. Today Sen. Hatch decided to take another tact.
“Jeff Sessions is a really fine person,” Hatch said. “Think of his wife. She’s a really fine person. Jeff has been here 20 years. He’s interchanged with almost all of us. Sometimes you agree with him and sometimes you don’t, but he’s always been a gentleman.”
A gentleman? His wife? Sen. Hatch voted to stop a woman from speaking the words of another woman. You want us to protect Jeff Sessions’ wife from the public knowledge that he’s a raging racist asshat? How about this? I bet Jeff Sessions’ wife is also a racist asshat, Sen. Hatch—and yours too.
