After forcing myself to watch the entire Trump press conference and the satires and analyses, I have to take Trump’s side on his thesis that the media and Democrats are displaying hatred towards him and it will inevitably back fire on both the media and the Democrat Party.
Trump’s tone, body language and facial expressions were calm and reasoned. This accounts for 80% of what people “hear”. He hit populist themes: bringing jobs back to the US; streamlining regulations to reduce red tape while protecting the environment and worker safety and working toward world peace.
Now you may not believe that he will actually do these things, but Trump did very well explaining them at this news conference. It was not a disaster. We have our work cut out for us in 2018. No amount of smirking and giggling about him will do anything to stop him. He is winning big time and we are deluding ourselves if we think otherwise.
Trump will increase his legislative margins in 2018 and win big in 2020. He will not be impeached and could go down as one of the most popular presidents in history. At this point, attacking him personally only makes him more popular. Does anyone recall what happened to Bill Clinton’s popularity when he actually was impeached?
Trump does not run and hide when he is hit, he comes out and hits back. Obama, the most charismatic man I’ve ever seen, didn’t and lost his super majority in two short years. People like to see someone stand up for what they believe in and confidently state why those who oppose their ideas are wrong.
He offered a reasonable assessment of how you can apply fake news to real leaks. It’s really pretty easy to understand and is not incoherent at all. He also offered a reasonable concern about what could happen if very sensitive information was leaked to the press.
People will not support parties that participate in excessive mocking, mindless negativity and endless character attacks. If we confine our resistance to these things we will continue to lose.
