Before the allegations of SPAM begin, the book is free, written before the election in an attempt to educate the public on what building The Wall and setting out to deport 15 million people would actually entail. I have given the book away for free every Monday before the Election, Election Day, Inauguration Day, and now Presidents Day weekend. All profits have been donated to the ACLU.

Written before the election, the book is set in the year 2024, after two Trump terms, The Wall explores the devastating effect of just one of Trump’s policies. Written in Oral History Format (Studs Terkel, WWZ) , The Wall explores the economic, environmental, social, moral, and political costs of building The Wall. From ICE Raids to Border Searches, to Canadian Escape, the book has proven remarkably prescient after just 4 weeks, and it’s later predictions are even more frightening.

I don’t know how they do it, but there are still people crossing the border. I don’t know if they fly over, dig under or teleport themselves with a Harry Potter wand. But they do.
I keep jugs of water filled out on the fence line, far from the house. Now, it ain’t cause I’m a bleeding heart. I think death out there in that desert is, was, a strong deterrent, but after the 3rd or 4th one died on my property. I got tired of the paper work and visits by the police, the coroner, the ATF, the Border agents. The non stop interrogation. The first one, they practically accused me of murder. Scared me so much, I had to get a lawyer.
I thought there was this glut of lawyers, so many of ‘em, they were suing law schools and such because there were no jobs like they was promised. Will, I’ll tell that is a pile of horse hockey pucks. Cheapest one I could find was $150 an hour. That is more than $2 a minute. Most of which was just sitting there and nodding and telling me not to talk. I ain’t spent time with anyone so worthless since Thanksgiving at my son in law’s house.
So anyways, I started putting jugs of water out there, hope is they get the water, and if they die, they have the decency not to do it on my land, as I did the Christian thing and gave them water. Simple courtesy thank you, very much.

Do I look Mexican? No, I do not.
If anyone had told me The Wall would mean TSA style lines and stop and search everywhere, I would have voted for Clinton, despite that last minute scandal and lies. Did she not learn anything from Nixon, or even her own husband. It is never the act, it is always the cover up
Sure, you can buy the Clear or Fastpass or whatever, but that just means that you get waved through when you get there. It doesn’t mean you get to skip the line.
I wrote an app, it is like WAZE, and it tells you where the current ICE BLOCK “Papers, Please” Stop and Go’s are at on your route. My app just aggregates the data that users submit, we do a little predictive work, where we guess if a community could have another ICE Block based on the size of the current one, the number of active troops they have on duty, the time of day and year, and a few other variables we have gleaned.
I’ll give you this one for free: No surprise really, but it turns out ICE troops don’t like the heat or the rain anymore than anyone else, so if it is above 90, and clear, the sun baking down on them and their black, body armor and helmets is too much for them. Their unions will only allow them to be out in those conditions for 60 minutes, and the clock starts ticking the minute the first troop opens their truck door. How in the hell they got unions in the day of Trump, I have no idea.
Anyway, I got busted for collaborating with the enemy or something along the sedition act, but I got lucky. My lawyer can lay out the boring constitutional defense in great detail. Just don’t ask him until after I leave, else I get billed for it.
My own judge at my trail, was late, because she got ICE Blocked and was late for my verdict.
She was so livid, she came into court, said she needed to retype her verdict, called for a recess. When she called court back in session an hour later, she had a short two page verdict.
Long story short, she said my app did not violate any rules as it was using public data and information that anyone could find just by walking the streets and seeing where the back up was.
Since this data was in the public domain, I wasn’t spying on anyone or anything, so I was cleared. I heard rumors that originally she was going to side with Trump Administration, and rule that my app was illegal, but when she got caught in an ICE Block, and was stuck there apparently for hours, with her own toddler, screaming and needing both a diaper change and lunch. The “price of freedom” was no longer a theoretical cost but a real cost, and an expensive, loud, hungry one at that.
You can download my app from the Apple or Google Play store, could save you an hour or a trip downtown. The more you submit ICE Blocks, the less you pay.
Ken Langley, Age 43, Occupation Hair Salon Owner.
Ken runs a hair salon in a middle class neighborhood in down town Cincinnati. It is upscale enough that it doesn’t have a pun in its name. Ken gestures me toward the array of framed beauticians’ licenses on the wall. Each one has a photo, their names, and the expiration date. I turn to him and he nods back at the wall. I try to suppress an exasperated sigh, and I scan the photos again. Almost all are young women, a few are a in the 40’s, and there are a few men. Then I see the pattern.
I only hire Orientals now. No one who looks the least bit Latin, Hispanic, Greek, Middle Eastern, swarthy, olive skinned. It isn’t worth the hassle.
My clients are women, they spook easily. We got raided once, and they detained two of my girls and a client.
He goes out of his way to place special emphasis on the word client.
Both of my girls were US citizens, but they had Latin Surnames. But the client told her friends. And her friends told their friends. Gossip. Gossip. Gossip. The stories got bigger and wilder. I heard one where three people were shot in my salon. I lost clients for months. Some never came back. Either afraid they would get ICE’ed or hassled.
So from that day on, I replaced everyone with Orientals. Sorry, Asians. I’ve had investigators stop by, but once they look at this wall, they quickly see they won’t make their quota here, and they move on to better hunting grounds.
Is it fair? No. Well, yes actually it is. This way no one is hassled.
Sanjay Dhruv, Age 28 Occupation: Software Engineer.
Sanjay’s lanky, athletic build belays his hours spent on the cricket pitch. For a while before the Clinton/Trump elections there were more Cricket Pitches than Baseball Diamonds in parts of Texas. While I can’t find a repeat of that study today, I’m willing to bet that is no longer the case.
I get it; I’ve got dark skin and black hair. I guess I look Mexican’ish. But all you have to do is hear my clipped, decidedly Indian/British sing song accent and I should be good to go.
But I’m not. At least not now.
Now if I am to be stopped, I have to clear two hurdles. First I have to prove I am not Mexican, illegal or not. Then I have to prove I’m not Muslim. Which is even harder to prove. How do you prove a negative? I’m Hindu. Not that that should matter. A man who can’t even name 5 books of the bible, or 4 of the 10 commandments, should not be the person who decides which religions are not good enough.
As horrible as the Radical Islamic are, and as poorly as they interpret the Koran, at least they are deeply familiar with the materials. It is still abhorrent, don’t get me wrong. But at least it is consistent. The evil people who call for the worst can at least quote from the passages that they are misreading to justify their horrors.
I’m here with an H1B Visa I was invited to come here because your own country does not have enough qualified workers. Your most successful tech giants have said as much asking again and again to raise the number of Visas allowed to work here, to keep your software from falling behind. Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Steve Jobs, that guy who sued Gawker out of business and drinks the blood of students to stay young. All of them want me here.
I’m leaving as soon as I can. My wife and kids are already back in India, I’ve told my brother in law not to come, ever. The constant hassles just aren’t worth it. Better to go to England, Germany, even China. Who would have ever thought the world would say China, a communist country was less restrictive than the United States, the bastion of Democracy, and I’m from India, the world’s largest Democracy, so I know a thing or two about representative government.
Robert Jones, Age 52, Occupation: University Professor.
I walk the hallways in the prototypical ivy covered, brick lecture hall. Past posters, monitors and bulletin boards filled with ads for tutoring, clubs and “Maids Wanted: Whites Only Need Apply.” I meet Bob in one of his classrooms. It is as large as decent sized movie theater we used to go to. I feel silly sitting here by myself, wedged into one of the seats on the front row getting a private lecture.
The theory of the political concept of “Self Deportation,” made famous by Mitt Romney, is that if you make someone’s life so miserable that they will gladly leave on their own.
Now that requires 2 things. First, you have to make the conditions here, at least as bad, if not worse than they are in the country where the person is from. Where you want them to return to.
Second, you have to have a population willing to live not necessarily at that standard but with the side effects of that standard, for long enough for those that you want to go home, to pack up and leave.
Now if their original standard in original country was unpleasant, and in many cases it was, that difference isn’t too bad and you can make them with very little impact on the average citizen.
But, if the conditions in their original country are truly horrific, the conditions you need to create here in the US will make US citizens both uncomfortable with the idea, and more importantly uncomfortable in their own lives as the splash damage, the side effects, the collateral damage if you want to use the military jargon begin to take affect.
It doesn’t take too much discomfort to get someone from most of Europe, especially Western Europe to self deport. The delta between the conditions in New York and London, are not that great so it doesn’t take much inconvenience to get someone to self deport. To take themselves home.
But the conditions between LA and Ciudad Juarez? Especially before The Wall and the economic turmoil? Now that is a very large difference, and that requires a very large increase in inconvenience to get people to self deport. But that inconvenience is going to have wide-ranging reach and affect people far beyond those here without documentation or illegally.
Now what has been interesting, is that we are beginning to see a rise even among self proclaimed Trump Supporters that say the inspections lines are getting too long, the ICE BLOCKS are too frequent, the ICINGS scared their children.
Will that be enough to wind back down? I don’t know.
What is an ICE Block?
Bob paces the floor, like a teacher, making sure he covers the room. He can’t help himself, force of habit and he walks over to the wall of chalkboards and writes I C E in big letter and underlines them one by one.
ICE stands for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They are the group responsible for the apprehension, housing and processing of people who are here illegally, sorry those without papers.
An ICE BLOCK is when ICE sets up a roadblock or inspection station at a point of entry. Usually designed so there can be no runners. A large, well shaped area that can funnel and cordon off the crowd that needs to be inspected. A freeway on ramp, an office park, a train station, a shopping mall.
They don’t do shopping malls no more, too many complaints from the fat cats. Only the rich go to the shopping malls anyway. Everyone else just shops on line. Them that are all too happy to take the money from the people here illegally taking our jobs.
Basic breakdown as my dad explained it me:
Border Patrol patrols the borders. What people didn’t know, at least those not in Texas, is that the Border Patrol can go in land quite a ways. 100 miles in fact. That gives them access to nearly 70% of all people inside the US. Seattle, El Paso, etc. But when the border was redefined via the Trump Act to include the coastline, that meant nearly every major city was now in range. Chicago, Miami, New York, Boston, San Francisco, etc.
Homeland Security inspects the entry points, which are often past the borders. Airports, train stations, ferry terminals and the like.
ICE does most of the rounding up and raids and is responsible to house everyone caught until they are processed.
Local Police refer anyone they catch, sorry, that they arrest, no apprehend, to ICE. Often local Police, especially at the start, were brought in to serve as crowd control. At the beginning, the protests against ICE Blocks were severe and frequent. Now protests have dropped off.
Because all the protestors were arrested and fined and can’t afford to protest anymore is what I heard. Now local police are mostly brought in to serve as a backstop, catch, arrest, anyone who gets past the ICE agents during an Icing.
The results were good at the beginning, not just in terms of people caught, but also in terms of people who cashed out and left on their own. Self-Deported. If you are caught, you are likely leaving money on the table. The cash in your mattress, your car will be confiscated. The money in your bank account? Impounded. But if you leave on your own, you can cash out and take that money with you, on your terms. So, in the beginning it was efficient.
But now we are in the time of dimensioning returns there are fewer people left to catch, the lines are longer the searches are more frequent, the disruption is more. Have we reached the tipping point? If the Cinco de Mayo bombing didn’t bring us there? I don’t know if we are. Most of us sigh and shrug when we get ICED, but not very many go to the polls and vote for something new.
