Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly (D. IN):
Like many of you, I was deeply disturbed by the news that General Michael Flynn, President Trump’s former National Security Adviser, discussed lifting U.S. sanctions on Russia with Russian officials before President Trump took office -- and then lied about it.
Mr. Flynn has now resigned from his post, and President Trump has appointed a new National Security Adviser, General H.R. McMaster. But those of us who care about U.S. national security still have more questions than answers.
That’s why I’m calling on for a full, transparent, bipartisan Congressional investigation into Russia’s attempts to influence our elections and our government. If you agree we need this investigation, will you add your name to show your support?
I’m alarmed that the President and other members of the Trump administration were aware of Mr. Flynn’s lies, and the possibility of blackmail by Russia, and took no action until the news broke to the public.
And now, the New York Times reports that additional members of the Trump campaign had contact with Russian officials during the election. We can only speculate about what was discussed, but we owe the American people our best effort to get some answers.
A bipartisan investigation is the only way we’ll get to the bottom of these questions and ensure that we’re doing all that we can to protect our national security.
Will you join me in calling on Congress to investigate Russia’s attempts to influence our government and elections?
Thank you,
Joe
