The Bay Area city of Richmond, California just made history last night. It’s the the first city in the nation to pass a resolution unanimously supporting impeaching Donald J. Trump. The resolution—spearheaded by Councilmember Gayle Mclaughlin—was drafted by the Impeach Trump Now campaign led by Free Speech for People and RootsAction.
If you think it’s a bit weird for a city to make this move, that’s completely expected. The council is completely aware. As ABC 7 reports:
The council acknowledged how unusual it was to call for the president's impeachment. He's been in office for only a month, but the vote was unanimous.
"Unfortunately with this president it's oddly appropriate," said Richmond City Councilmember Jael Myrick.
Can’t argue with that.
The resolution calls for the House of Representative’s Judiciary Committee to investigate Trump for violating the now infamous “Emoluments Clause.” While the council fully stands behind their decision, they do this in hopes that it’ll trigger a nationwide trend of other American cities to pass the resolution.
