Which is weirder, current fads, past fads...or maybe future ones?
Having once been young & now being what passes for as old, I hereby testify that new things are weird, but so are old things. I have been forced to this conclusion by realizing this week that I have no interest in either in bikini-clad maids or in bowling.
This week I was re-introduced to the world of bowling by hipster friends at a work party, and also introduced, for the first time, to the world of bikini-clad maids...and by my neighbor no less. Before you think poorly of me, my house is still a mess. No one clad in a bikini, or otherwise clad, has cleaned my house.
I came across bowling after an absence of at least a decade because a bowling alley is where the work party I attended was at. I expected to find it either empty, or else filled with folks of my age or older. Instead, the place was filled with hipsters of all genders bowling their hearts out. Bowling was out of fashion when I was growing up, but here it was seemingly more popular with the youth than ever. I scratched my head until the lights were turned low and the disco-like lights and music turned on. Oh, this is not the staid bowling I remember.
The next morning my young neighbor is telling me about her employment prospects. One is testing out apps for a new firm in San Francisco. The other is going to work for a bikini-clad cleaning service.
I scratch my head again. I think she is joking. She is not joking. There is actually such a company and she is actually considering working for them. Okay, it isn’t bowling, she wouldn’t be working in the nude, many of the folks who use the service are couples, some of the bikini-clad maids are male, and a bodyguard would accompany her for protection. So there’s that.
So apparently there’s actually a market to have your house cleaned by someone wearing a bikini.
I don’t get it, but what do I know. Maybe the world is actually as crazy as I’ve always suspected it was.
Perplexed by both bowling and bikini-clad maids, I spontaneously googled “nude bowling” & found a result of 282,000 separate pages. I then googled, for the hell of it, “Rome did a lot of good.” That got only 3 pages. Okay, the bread and circuses of ancient Rome are being replaced by nude bowling. Meanwhile, a brainless loudmouth bully sits in the Oval Office sending out absurd tweets. Somewhere Caligula is laughing.
