Talk about profile in courage: a pregnant woman found out the fetus had a major birth defect - no brain. And in the midst of grief, she found strength to ask if she could carry to term, to donate the organs to little ones in need. This is another side of choice: this couple had the capability to make a choice that was right for them. In her case, it's going through the pregnancy. In other families or situations, it's the choice that pregnancy is not the right path. Either case, we are about making sure women have the options, and can make the right decision for themselves.

A crucial new report based on data from the National Network of Abortion Funds confirms what reproductive-justice advocates have been saying for a long time: Abortion is already all but inaccessible for poor Americans. The report provides concrete evidence that the Hyde Amendment — which since 1976 has prohibited federal funds, including Medicaid and Affordable Care Act dollars, from covering most abortions — impedes poor women’s access to the procedure. The data also paints a stark picture of disparity, as young and black women are most affected by the prohibition.
