What do you do when you don’t want to face your constituents and the numerous problems they have with your political party’s subservience to getting rid of the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid, Social Security, and the ongoing cowardice of refusing to investigate the never-ending stream of frightening revelations coming out of the White House? You can say something crazy racist or you hold a Facebook live town hall, like Virginia Republican Rep. Scott Taylor!
On Jan. 30, Taylor held his first Facebook Live town hall from Washington D.C., giving his nearly 55,000 Facebook followers a chance to listen and ask questions in real time.
He says it’s a cost-effective way of communicating with lots of people. Rep. Taylor’s Facebook page timeline is like a who’s who of terrible American dunderheads. Unfortunately for Rep. Taylor’s constituents, he likes to block people from his Facebook page. This way he can vamp for a video camera without the problems of hearing voters and their blah blah blah problems. So annoying! Of course, even Rep. Scott Taylor has to face people once in a while, and at a recent real life town hall some of his constituents asked him what the deal was.
Lulani Mae, of Virginia Beach, said she voted for Taylor in the Nov. 8 election because she thought his military background would lend to his ability to successfully represent Virginia’s 2nd district. At the Feb. 20 Kempsville town hall, Mae, who is affiliated with the local Together We Will group, told Taylor she’s been blocked from posting or participating in conversations on his Facebook page.
“I’m no longer allowed to post on your Facebook page,” Mae told Taylor at the town hall, “and it’s very disappointing.”
Taylor told her he would make sure she was unblocked but that hasn’t happened and Ms. Mae isn’t the only one. Taylor claims that people only get blocked for “behavior that’s out of line.” Of course, it turns out that “out of line” can also mean posting that you believe President Trump’s travel ban is “religious discrimination,” as one citizen did, and was summarily blocked. Keep your eyes and ears open, this Rep. Scott Taylor seems like someone on the go in our country’s fascistic Republican Party.
