What do I always say? Oh yeah, “You lie down with wolves, and you wake up with teeth marks”. I have the idea that that’s pretty much how Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III feels right now. Sweet Jeebus, what’s the world coming to when a guy can’t make a couple of stupid secret calls to the Russian ambassador without having it blow up into a federal case?
For me, the most important takeaway from yesterdays public hearing wasn’t so much what James Comey said in his two bombshell offerings taking down Trump-’s bullshit claim of Obama “wiretapping” him, not his admission that the FBI was involved in an active counter-intelligence investigation into communications between the Trump campaign and the Russians. It was how he couched both of them
In the first case, that about the ongoing investigation, Comey prefixed his statement with the declaration of “I have been authorized by the Justice Department to inform you”. And for debunking Mein Furor’s claim about Obama, Comey not only stated that the FBI had not one shred of information to confirm Trump’s claim, but went on to say “the Department of Justice” has asked me to share with you that they have no available information in their files either”. Man! Talk about putting the bad news in somebody else’s mouth!
I get the feeling that some certain southern politician is going to get a serious dressing down the next time Da Boss parks his twittermobile. Jeff Sessions had absolutely no in[put into what James Comey said today. That’s because he recused himself from any aspect of this investigation. The Decision fell to his deputy, an Obama holdover, who gave Comey permission to make the statements. “Thank you Mr. ambassador”.
This is going to absolutely infuriate Trump. Back when the Sessions scandal broke, Trumpenstein was adamant, Sessions was NOT to recuse himself, he was to hang tough and let everybody go screw themselves. If Sessions had followed orders and taken the heat, none of this would be in the news right now. I can’t believe that Sessions is not going to get a major chewing out by Das Donald for not following orders. But what else is to be done? It would be almost impossible for Sessions to vacate his recusal, and besides, the damage is done. As fast as this thing is moving, the most important thing in the world is for the Senate to delay the hell out of the replacement dor the Deputy that Trump has appointed. The longer we have the man making the investigative decisions, the better off we are, and the more that will be discovered.
Thank you Ambassador!
On a personal note, my apologies for being a no show for the last week or so. A week ago Friday, I had a fainting spell on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night, and fell backwards against the bed, twisting an elbow, and severely bruising some ribs. As far as I know, nothing was broken, but it was uncomfortable to type for a while. I’m seeing the doctor today, and if I find out anything worthwhile, I’ll of course keep my Kossack family updated.
