I found Paul Ryan’s remarks after today’s aborted vote on the (leave tons of) American(s without) Healthcare Act interesting. He kept talking about this incredible opportunity that exists for the GOP, and how it is crucial that they use it NOW. Listening, you could practically feel his impatience seeping through the speakers. It’s not hard to imagine him being positively giddy about finally having GOP control of both chambers and the presidency. Finally, all of his Ayn Rand wet dreams might come true!
But this doesn’t feel like simply the impatience of an eager person. It feels more pressed, more urgent, more… desperate. Perhaps he’s feeling like it’s time to strike because he knows that the iron won’t stay hot for much longer. Perhaps he’s fully expecting that the Trump administration will be short-lived, due to that little problem with Putin and Co. Or, maybe I’m just reading too much into his comments. Any thoughts?
