Anatomy of a Diary
I was looking through some of my old diaries and noticed there my most-recommended diary, Mosquito Control, written in July of 2013. Although I joined Daily Kos in 2004 I had only slowly ventured into writing diaries (pretty scary, actually) and this was my ninth. I worked hard on it, gathering the photos from Photobucket and captioning them just so. I was fairly proud of it, but decided to wait until the next day to publish. So the next day I went to retrieve it from my drafts…….it was gone. I blamed myself, of course. but then I saw a comment from JekylinHyde that exactly the same thing had happened to him. So I started over trying to replicate what I had written, realizing that what was no doubt the “lost chord” of diaries could never be re-written. But it was, as much as I remembered, and was well received.
I’ll give a little précis of the diary, so no one needs to re-read it. I have a little pond on a slope on my property. I noticed that it was full of wiggling larvae. Not wishing to despoil the pond by pouring oil on it, I sought out Mosquito fish, free from the county.
The upshot of the story was that those fish ate all the larvae.
During the last few drought years the pond didn’t manifest at all. With this year’s mega-rains it will be there this summer, so I shall repeat the whole program.
While searching for these photos I saw some almost forgotten ones that I like.

In case you’re stressed about politics, I can help:
After our Kossack bird hike in 2012 (seems like yesterday) we gathered at the Sausalito Yacht Club, which has a rather nice view.
If anything happened to my Photobucket collection, i would be bereft.
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by and tell us about your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
