Tom Cotton appeared on Face the nation this last Sunday to spin his narrative on the latest republican healthcare (tax cut disaster). I got lucky this time and managed to add the correct embed stuff needed to make a shortened video clip.
Link: March 26, 2017: Sen. Cotton (republican) joins Face the Nation. I clipped out the “compassionate conservative” nonsense to pin point their actual agenda
note: in order to view the shortened video clip again, the page must be refreshed or the whole video posted will play from beginning to end
transcript of the shortened clip:
Cotton:
[One of Trump’s henchmen], “secretary of Health and Human services, Tom Price can undertake regulations designed to lift some of the worst harms of Obamacare and try to give some people relief…
“Later this year we have must pass healthcare legislation that’s coming up; the Children’s Healthcare Program [C.H.I.P.] that’s very important to a lot of Democrats. By that point I’m hoping we can reach some kind of consensus [hostage negotiation] where we can try and do away with the worst problems of Obamacare..”
(end of transcript)
The real republican agenda was never about providing healthcare. It was about establishing an estimated $600 billion dollar lowered base-line in preparation for the GOP touted “tax reform” -> massive tax cuts to the moneyed elite.
Tom Cotton isn’t half as stupid as Trump or Paul Ryan.
He has other plans to “explode” PPACA (Obamacare) and pave the way for the budget reconciliation process they may need to overcome Dems that try to block them
Tom Cotton’s admonishment to his republican cohorts:
“...they should deploy a more “careful and deliberate approach.” Those changes to the country’s health care system, the senator added, are inevitable. [...]
“We don’t have a choice to visit it or revisit it. We have to revisit it,”
he said.
Cotton suggested that in the meantime, the administration take action to tweak the current health care system while Congress mulls future long-term restructuring.
“Inevitable”, because republican intend to do their worst to “tweak” Obamacare

Daily Kos Joan McCarter has written up some of Tom Prices’ likely “undertakings” here. The “inevitable” ..”careful and deliberate” republican plans to “tweak” — sabotage — Obamacare. Aka - “explode” in Trump speak. I added my 2 cents here & here

Tom Cotton (R) has a long record of using Children’s Health care as ransom for his extremist agenda — Cotton co-sponsored H.R.631 & S.352
This time around, Cotton appears to be scolding his fellow republicans for “moving too fast on healthcare efforts”
— when in truth, what Tom Cotton is really saying is: ‘if we republicans wanted a $600 billion dollar lower base-line for our “tax reform” (massive tax cuts for the moneyed few & corporations) coming up, we shouldn’t have tried the “repeal & replace” gambit getting slammed at town halls (video) out in the open (video), we should have done it my way. Hidden from sight. Demanding a ransom. Holding good legislation that helps people..even children, hostage…
‘...let Trump’s republican henchmen; Mick Mulvaney (director of the Office of Management and Budget) & Tom Price (Secretary of Health and Human Services) do their dirty work of sabotage behind closed doors’
some sources of information:
In addition to Trump’s blood-simple vendetta against President Obama that began long ago with his racist birtherism campaign and carried on as an attack against Hillary Clinton, is another driving motivation that republicans wanted “repeal & replace” AHCA to be, as the Trump/GOP regime put it; ‘out of the way’:
...every tax cut has to be offset by a similar tax increase or a spending cut. That's why the loss on health care was so damaging to the effort to overhaul taxes.
Ryan made this case to fellow House Republicans in his failed effort to gain support for the health plan.
"That was part of the calculation of why we had to take care of health care first," said Rep. Tom Reed, R-N.Y.
With more here on the real reason republican’s were so hot to ram through their Heath Act (tax cut):
...while maintaining its cuts in Medicare, the bill would reduce expected revenue by $600 billion, without changing the deficit. That tax cut alone would be a big win. But it only tees up the next set.
“That in turn means that if Republicans bring a second reconciliation bill to cut taxes, they will be judged against a revenue baseline that is already $600 billion lower than expected,”
is how Yuval Levin put it at National Review. “

This whole cruel episode was not about providing health care. It was about massive tax cuts for the moneyed elite and putting insurance corporations between people and their doctor — while actually taking away healthcare for millions — including Tom Cottons under handed exploitation plan to hold Children’s Healthcare Program (CHIP) for ransom
Because it really fucking angered me Sunday watching the self righteousness of Tom Cotton on a nationally syndicated media program as he lied through his teeth with every word he uttered. And the republicans Mulvaney & Price are just getting started on their foul agenda — and that includes another series of underhanded assaults on Obamacare.
This time it’s even more important for all of us to keep track. The republicans can never give up on tax cuts (“fixing” healthcare) for their elite donors — and keep their jobs.
While they pretend to “make improvements” to PPACA, they’ll be dismantling it far away from any town hall, one piece of it at at time
This is how bad the GOP covet those tax cuts masquerading as “fixing healthcare”

“We are going to keep getting at this thing,”
[Paul] Ryan said three days after intraparty opposition forced him to pull the American Health Care Act after it became clear it did not have enough Republican votes to pass.
On an afternoon call with donors to his Team Ryan political organization, he continued:
“We’re not going to just all of a sudden abandon health care and move on to the rest.
[...]
Ryan (R-Wis.) did not disclose details of what the next iteration of health-care reform might look like, but he suggested that a plan was being developed in time to brief the donors at a retreat scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Florida.
Meanwhile Trump will be putting his henchmen on this; what it’s always been about:
Trump said Friday that he wanted to move on to the rest of his agenda — tax reform [massive cuts for the moneyed elite], in particular
— and that he was content to leave the Affordable Care Act in place and let it — [sabotage it] — “explode.”
#resist & stay with it — together in Solidarity we’ll expose & stop these crooks again & for good :)
