Here's how I see things as of today:
1. Trump's complete disaster on Healthcare blew a ton of his own political capital. One more major legislative loss and the lawmaking role of his presidency will be crippled.
2. New presidents usually seek to expand their authority through Congress early on. They try to grab as much administrative power and money as possible. That is how they get to push their agenda. Trump hasn't done this. Instead, he's playing around with Executive Orders.
3. He's still got the office, but that has its limits. Eventually, the EO's will run out. You can only do so much with those and then you hit a wall of statutes (requiring Congress). That means lawsuits and lawsuits means being tied up in court.
4. This is why Trump is looking to split the Democrats in order to gain some new money and new authority. Democrats should not take the bait and instead play for all the marbles. Break him, and Dems get the majority. Cooperate with him, Dems get a pat on the head.
5. Trump will soon have to turn to foreign policy if his domestic agenda is jammed and that's exactly where Democrats should want him. His broad latitude there is perfect place to exercise his fuckup tendencies.
6. Democrats will be tempted to grant Trump a bunch of infrastructure money. DON'T DO IT. Rest assured, all Trump is going to do is fly around the nation collecting golden shovels and not inviting Democrats to the groundbreaking. Don't be stupid Dems. Fuck the infrastructure. Go for the majority. Then deal with the infrastructure.
7. Its time for Democrats to become deficit hawks. Big time. Fuck helping people and all that shit. Be deficit hawks. Help people after you win. Please don't give me any shit about hypocrisy because nobody gives a shit about hypocrisy.
The key person to watch here is Mitch McConnell. I know you all hate when I say it, but I respect McConnell very much. He is wily, crafty, cunning, vicious little shit. The only thing that matters to him in life is power politics and he plays skillfully. Eventually the GOP will turn from Trump if he can't get his shit together and look to Turtle to lead. McConnell is a more difficult challenge than Trump.
