This is just a quick hit. I think that Der Gropinfuhrer may be feeling the failure of his alleged Presidency where it hurts the most, in his ego. First the marches and protests, then the angry town halls, how much can a tiny thumbs Diktator take? And he may have just hinted to his angst.
I had MTP Daily on for background noise while I cleaned the stove, and Chuck Todd brought up something that brought me back into the living room.
It turns out that the Washington Nationals baseball team extended an invitation to Trump to come on out to the ballpark next week and throw out the first pitch for their home opener. The White House declined, stating “possible crowd concerns”. Crowd concerns? Presidents throw out first pitches all the time, Bush Lite loved going back to Arlington Tx. to throw out the first pitch for his Rangers. Obama has done it at least twice, in 2010 and 2014. Presidents go to sporting events all the time, it’s more of a pain in the ass for the fans than it is for the President. Hell, Mike Pence even went to see “Hamilton”.
Chuck Todd thinks it was a different kind of crowd issue they were worried about. The Nationals stadium holds about 31,000 fans, and opening day is normally standing room only. But on November 8th, only 12,000 Washington residents voted for Trump. Every Trump voter could bring a friend, and still not fill the stands. And what about Trump voters who hate baseball?
Granted, this is pure conjecture, Todd indicated as much. But it is an interesting and intriguing concept. If it’s actually true, then we know that the protests and low polling numbers are getting to Trump, to the point where he’s afraid to go somewhere where 30,000 people should be, possibly so as to not have to see streets lined with protesters on the way in and out, and possibly because there won’t be anywhere near 30,000 people there, at least not 30,000 cheering people, not when he walks out to the mound. God, I hope it’s true!
