Greetings everyone and Happy April Fool’s Day! I tried to think of something clever to write about for today but I’m not much for pranks. But then the day’s namesake hit me: Fool. Hah!
A fool is an English dessert. Traditionally, fruit fool is made by folding pureed stewed fruit (classically gooseberries) into sweet custard. Modern fool recipes often skip the traditional custard and use whipped cream. Additionally, a flavouring agent like rose water may be added.
All you need is fruit, a little sugar, and cream.
1. Simmer some chopped, fresh fruit with a bit of sugar until it's soft and syrupy.
2. Whip some cream. Add a bit of sugar to gently sweeten it.
3. Let the fruit cool, then fold it into the whipped cream, creating pretty swirls and ribbons.
Raspberries, gooseberries, strawberries, whatever seasonal fruit you have can make a good fool. Serve it in tall clear glasses to appreciate the colors and layers.
Here’s a few tasty sounding ones from Serious Eats:

So, do you feel like foolin’ around with fools? Heh;)
