My 5C IPhone has not been working properly since January. It will not hold a charge. So I keep it plugged in all the time at home and in the car. Its been very weird but just a little annoying.
In Feb, Lil Zen took it to a local guy for a new battery for my birthday. That didn’t help and a couple of weeks later, I took it back, same solution, did not work again. So today, I took it to the fine folks at Apple and the Genius Bar. A very nice young woman tested it and said the battery was bad. OK, let’s get a new one. Well…..
Since it was not an Apple battery, she could not remove it for safety reasons. I took it back to “the guy” who took it out. I took it back to Apple. “No, you don’t understand, Apple can’t touch your dangerous phone at all now.” So they are telling me that I can’t buy a battery from them, they can’t fix it, its a lump of useless stuff now.
Wait, if I buy a Ford truck, have my own mechanic put air in the tires, from then on Ford won’t work on my truck but will be happy to sell me a new one? Because someone else opened the phone, it will now become an exploding Samsung? After a little agitation and a manager, I was told to go to the little kiosk right outside the giant Apple store, and Waldo would replace the battery. I did, he did, and it is charging now. I hope this takes care of it. I really do not want to buy a new phone so I will just have to take my chances.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

I was reminded of the toast scene in “5 Easy Pieces”, where the waitress is just a bitch for the love of the sport. Both of the young ladies who helped me were very kind, pleasant, and as helpful as their jobs would allow. I did not and do not blame them for the company policies. They actually gave me useful help and walked me to the kiosk. But it took 2 hours, three car trips and a stressful time for all, without real reason. Plus I am driving with a broken arm in a cast. Not my best side!
Update: The new battery did not help. I took it to a repair shop that was highly recommended and they will test to see if it is the charge port or the charge ic chip to the mother board. They called and said it was dead, not repairable. I can still use it as long as it is plugged in and/or has some battery. I will have to investigate how to replace it as economically as possible.
On the up side, I got my cast removed today and they gave me a little velcro splint to wear when I need to but I am supposed to leave it off and exercise my arm. It hurts to turn it, of course, but I am typing this with both hands. It is more painful than when it was in the cast but it is a different kind of pain. This too will pass.
