Like many people I spent November 9, 2016 in a fugue. It was inconceivable that the good people of America would elect that lying orange menace president — and yet they did.
In the weeks since inauguration Day, that fugue state has morphed into a series of WTF moments, the latest of which I have personally found out about via Twitter, then confirmed by stories here on DK and from other Media sources.
Donald Trump sent missiles flying into Syria and then he ordered at least one strikegroup in the Pacific to sit off the coast of the Korean Peninsula, citing North Korean pushback about the Tomahawk missiles as cause.
The Carl Vinson strike group, which includes an aircraft carrier, was first scheduled to make port calls in Australia but was redirected from Singapore to the western Pacific.
“US Pacific Command ordered the Carl Vinson strike group north as a prudent measure to maintain readiness and presence in the western Pacific,” said Commander Dave Benham, spokesman at US Pacific Command.
“The No 1 threat in the region continues to be North Korea, due to its reckless, irresponsible and destabilising programme of missile tests and pursuit of a nuclear weapons capability,” he said, in an unusually forceful statement.
So I can’t make myself turn on the news today, because I’m afraid of what I’ll find out.
Ignorance isn’t bliss, and it won’t last long, but for today? I’m #NewsFree.
I haven’t logged into anywhere today, except the Pixel Federation to some Diggy’s Adventure. Other than that, I played with my youngest granddaughter for a bit. Drank some coffee. Contemplated what to make for brunch (cause breakfast would’ve been around two hours ago if I’d been hungry then). Talked with my contractor friend about options on what to do with my property (it’s too much to keep up anymore, and the taxes and mortgage are killing me, until I can apply for early SS in just six more years), including one where I sell off most of it and end up with a tiny house of maybe 900 sq ft and no debt or mortgage, plus the more immediate task of what to get to fix my shower, where the special sheetrock has some rot and I want it tiled over to prevent future water damage, above the shower stall backing, up to the ceiling.
So all of my care and worry today was home-centric. Because for just one day, I needed a break from the awful, horrible, terrible news I’m sure most of you heard about the latest imbroglio on Capital Hill or whatever fucked up idea Trump pulled out of his ass and put into motion because he can.
Last, but hardly least, I am under invasion by a horde of teeny, tiny sugar ants. They came in waves for the last three years, but this year is particularly horrible. They are everywhere, from bathroom sink to kitchen steel storage shelving unit on wheels to bedroom walls in the upstairs. One bright light on that front, I found a pile of dead ants in and around a schmoo of toothpaste and will be setting more out as a trial in the kitchen along the countertop edge where they travel, tonight. By tomorrow morning, I should be able to figure out if I’ve found a new, non-toxic application for Crest Complete.
How was your weekend?
