Given the rhetorical bluster that seems to have become commonplace in U.S.-Russian relations since the Trumpian missile strike on Syria (which might be simply a ruse to cover-up the Trump-Russia scandal...but I digress), someone in the Kremlin might want to tell Russia deputy ambassador to the United Nations, Vladimir Safronkov, that he needs to keep up.
Because Safronkov recently went on a torrid rant against the British UN ambassador in a meeting of the UN Security Council.
Moscow Times:
Vladimir Safronkov, Russia's deputy ambassador to the United Nations, launched into a tirade today in New York, nearly yelling at British UN Ambassador Matthew Rycroft, who accused the Kremlin of supporting “the murderous, barbaric, criminal” Assad regime, and said Russia is “on the wrong side of history.”
“You’re scared,” Safronkov told Rycroft. “Your dream has slipped away, because we’re going to work with the United States. You’re afraid of this. You’re doing everything you can to sabotage this teamwork… Look at me! Don’t turn your eyes away! Why are you looking away?”
The Russian ambassador also accused the British government of “serving the interests of armed groups, many of whom are beheading Christians and other minorities in the Middle East,” saying that London seems to be more interested in overthrowing the Assad regime than hearing the position of the majority in the UN.
Oh, dear, now the United Kingdom is supporting the Islamic State?
Is Mr. Safronkov confused?
After all, even The Occupant is now saying that American relations with Russia are at “an all time low” and American Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Russian President Vladimir Putin can’t seem to agree on anything anymore, in spite of being such good buddies in the past.
Perhaps Mr. Safronkov needs to get up to speed.
Or maybe all of this is a ginormous show of diplomatic three-card monte and hot air to cover up Russian indiscretions in the electoral affairs of both the United States and Britain and we’re all being taken for a very bumpy...and costly ride.
