Renowned chef and Boston restauranteur Barbara Lynch is transferring the ownership of her restaurant group to staff because she has her eyes set on new ventures. One of them is pretty cool (and sadly necessary): opening a bank specifically for women. It would offer features that most evil “too big to fail” banks don’t, according to Eater.com:
Lynch said she wants to build a bank for women with free checking, no ATM fees, and an educational element that will teach women how to invest, build and grow businesses, and manage their finances. A handful of banks catering exclusively to women opened previously in the United States (back when women couldn’t even open checking accounts without their husbands) but were bought by other banks or shifted focus.
She even wants to put money aside for female lobbyists, which is pretty cool. Sadly, this seems necessary considering how the GOP men running our government seem hell bent on making things as awful as possible for women.
It’ll be a while before we will see Lynch’s bank; creating a bank is no small venture that will take quite a while to properly set up before opening. Nevertheless, I can’t wait to see it in action when it finally opens.
